The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday heard testimony in the drug case involving one Ousman Njie, who was charged with being in possession of prohibited drug.
Lamin Camara, a narcotics officer, told the court he is attached to the Serrekunda NDEA charge office and that he recognised the accused person.
He said that on 9 September 2011, he was on duty at his office when he received a tip-off that the accused was selling suspected cannabis in his shop.
The witness added that a team of officers, including himself, was dispatched and upon arrival at the shop, they found the door locked, but moved to the window, which was opened.
They saw someone throwing out some suspected cannabis, he said, adding that when they managed to open the door they saw some seeds of suspected cannabis and quantities.
He added that the accused was arrested and taken to the place where he threw the parcels, in which they found seven parcels of suspected cannabis and ten wrapped ones.
The accused was taken to Serrekunda Police Station, where he wrote his statement.
Meanwhile, the accused was granted bail of D300,000 with two Gambian sureties with national ID cards.
The case was adjourned till 22 May 2012.
