Ebrima Jammeh, a police officer, was recently cross-examined in an alleged robbery and stealing case involving one Gibby Sey at the Special Criminal Court in Banjul.

Under cross-examination, officer Jammeh told the court that he was part of the officers who investigated the case, but he did not personally effect arrest on the accused, Gibby Sey.

He added that during the interrogation, the accused said he was a driver, and was given the vehicle to drive somebody to Casamance.

Officer Jammeh further explained that he never forced the accused to sign the statement, neither did he confiscate the passport nor the ID card of the accused person.

He stated that the independent witness was present at the time of obtaining the statement from the accused and he (the witness) was the only officer present at the time of recording the statement.

The witness denied that the accused was handcuffed at the time his statement was being recorded at the station.

 The case continues.
