A watchman was recently convicted and sentenced to one year eight months imprisonment for house breaking and stealing from his employer.
Ali Conteh was sentenced to one year imprisonment with hard labour on Count I and eight months on Count II following his own plea of guilty. He was also ordered to pay some amounts of 250, 000 CFA and D33, 400, which the complainant claimed to have gone missing, or default to serve six months in prison.
The presiding magistrate, Senior Magistrate Mbackeh pronounced further that if the convict fails to pay these monies, the sentences would run consecutively.
In his judgement, Magistrate Mbackeh posited that the convict deserves harsh punishment to serve as a deterrent to others.
He said that the convict's job was to protect the life and property of his employer, but instead he has betrayed that trust bestowed on him by his employer.
