Ward councilor, others discharged

Lamin Jarju, councilor of Marakisa Ward, Bakary Kujabi, Abdou Jarju, Malick Jassey, Dawda Njai and Jamma Ceesay were Monday acquitted and discharged by Magistrate Jaiteh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

They were earlier charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, prohibition of conduct to a breach of the peace and incitement of violence.

This was after the police prosecutor, sub inspector Sarr, made an application to withdraw the matter before the court.

In his application, prosecutor Sarr said he was applying under section 68-sub section 1 of the CPC to withdraw the charge against the all accused persons, as they had received instructions to withdraw the matter.

It was alleged in the particulars of offence in count one that the accused persons on 25 June 2013 conspired to commit a felony.

In count two, they were alleged to have, on the same date, month and year in the Kombo Central district of the West Coast Region, without lawful excuse, incited others to take part at the meeting grounds at Busura village, which was calculated to bring physical injury to the community.

In count three, they were alleged to have conducted themselves in a manner likey to cause a breach of the peace.
