One may be tempted to ask the reason behind Vietnam Border's poor display in Bakau Nawettan in the past three years, resulting in the departure of several star players.
The former Nawettan league and knock-out champions that enjoyed a top flight Nawettan football since its inception, had suffered a demoralising performances amidst speculation that the team will no longer make any impact in Bakau, following the departure of stars like Buba Njie, Sarja Leigh, Omar Touray alias (Coos), Ansumana Samateh, amongst other high-profile players.
And as a result, Border was relegated from the popular Nawettan which is described by many as the worst performers in the history of the team.
But their recent promotion to the Nawettan will surely give the fans something to be optimistic about.
Despite the dominance of young and inexperienced players in the current Border squad, they have enjoyed a superb start to the qualifiers which saw them finished on top of Group B, and eventually became the second team after Luniburg to berth a place in the Nawettan, thanks to a hard-fought one-nil win over Fajara United on Wednesday, at the Cocktail Football Field with Ebra scoring the only goal of the game.
They will now join Luniburg in the popular Bakau Nawettan, who earlier in the qualifiers eased past Cotton Club in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
