The
University of The Gambia and the Yunus Emre Institute of Turkey on Monday 17 July
2017 signed a Cooperation Protocol at a colourful ceremony held at the Turkish
Embassy in Brufut.
The
Vice Chancellor of The University of The Gambia, Professor Dr. Faqir Muhammad
Anjum signed on behalf of the UTG whiles Mr Selcuk Turan, Director of Communications,
signed on behalf of Yunus Emre Institute.
The
parties intend to strengthen bilateral relations, develop mutual understanding,
enhance cooperation, and invigorate cultural and scientific commitments. By
this protocol, the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center will offer courses at UTG
covering Turkish cultural heritage, Turkish Language, culture and arts.
In
his statement, the Turkish Ambassador to The Gambia, H.E. ismail Sefa Yuceer,
hailed the brotherly and cordial ties between The Gambia and Turkey and called
on the University authorities to explore other areas for cooperation with
Turkish Higher Education institutions particularly in Engineering, Agriculture
and aquaculture.
On
his part, the Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia expressed delight
at the signing of the cooperation protocol adding that the University of The
Gambia will continue playing its role in building the human resource capital
that is critical in the socio economic advancement of The Gambia.
The
signing ceremony was graced by the Principal Officers of the University,
Secretary General of the UTG Staff Association, President of the UTG Student
Union and staff of the Turkish Embassy.
