URR Farmers Trained on Seed Selection, Storage

Some 90 farmers in the Upper River Region were recently trained on seed selection and storage in the villages of Koina in Kantora District, Danpha- Kunda in Tumana District and Madina - Koto in Wuli West District respectively.

Speaking at the various workshop venues the co-ordinator of Agricultural Services, Mr. Falalo Touray, who deputised for the director of agricultural services, Mr. Musa Danpha, emphasised the importance of seed selection and storage in crop protection. Mr Touray  advised the participants to share the knowledge gained at the workshop with other farmers at the grass roots level. For his part, the workshop co-ordinator, Mr. Ebrima Jawo, urged  farmers in the region to  reserve good quality seeds for the coming farming season .The crop protection specialist for Upper River Region, Mr. Mustapha Sanneh, also urged farmers in the region to always store seeds that are pest and disease free.

Other speakers at the workshop were the regional agricultural co-ordinator (RAC) for Upper River Region, Mr. Mattar Njie, and Ms. Mariama S Trawally, agricultural extension worker, also a member of the OMVG local advisory committee in URR. 30 farmers were trained on seed selection and storage in each of the three villages mentioned above and the training workshop was sponsored by OMVG in collaboration with the Department Of State for Agricultural DOSA.
