Uncle testifies in nephew’s trial

One Dam Njie of Brikama recently testified in the theft case involving one Nfally Ceesay, his nephew, at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate N. Samateh.

In his testimony, Dam Njie said he knew the accused person and he could also remember the 5 April 2014.

According to him, on that day in question, he closed from his shop and went with his key to his house.

He said when he woke up the following morning, he did not see his shop key, adding that he went to the market and found his shop key in the door of the shop.

He opened the shop and found some of the money D90,000, 500CFA, 15 I-phones, 10 Samsung glaxy, 5 Nokia phones, 20 flash drivers, 8gik and 1 laptop marked Toshiba were all stolen, he said.

He said he reported the matter to the police, adding that one week later, he was in the market and the accused came with the said phones that he mentioned earlier.

When he saw the phones, he recognized them and took the accused person to the Brikama Police Station together with the said phones, he said.

At the police station, the accused confessed to the police that he opened the shop and stole the items, he added.

He said when the police asked the accused about the stolen items, he said he left them at Kartong, adding that he, the witness, drove his vehicle together with the police to Kartong to collect the items.

He said at Kartong, they collected some phones from the accused and cash amounted to D60,000 and the accused told them he spent the D30,000 out of the said D90,000.

He said the accused also told them he bought a radio from the said money.

At that juncture, he identified the phones, laptop and the radio which were tendered in court as exhibits.

The case was adjourned till 18 June 2014.
