The criminal appeal case involving eleven (11) United Democratic Party supporters and the state could not proceed yesterday, before the Gambia Court of Appeal presided over by Justice Adegoke, Justice Awa Bah and Justice Edrissa Mb’ai.

The appellants are Lamin Sonko, Modou Touray, Lasana Beyai, Lamin Marong, Alhajie Fatty, Nogot Njie, Fatoumatta Jawara, Fatou Camara, Kafu Bayo, Ebrima Jabang and Modou Ngum.

They were convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Mansakonko High Court presided over by Justice Simeon A. Abi, after they were found guilty for unlawful assembly, holding a procession without permit, conspiracy to commit felony, among others.

During the court sitting yesterday, the court observed that the appellants were not in court, and no reason was given for their absence.

This prompted the court to adjourn the matter until 28 November 2016 for mention.
