UDP Jarra Central NAM to open defence

Pa Jallow the opposition United Democratic Party’s National Assembly member for Jarra Central is expected to open his defence in the assault case preferred against him at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Forster.

This followed the prosecution’s announcement on Monday that they had closed their case, after the testimony of the second prosecution witness, one Momodou Dampha, a mechanic.

Jallow was alleged to have assaulted one Isatou Marenah, a police officer, by slapping her while in the due execution of her duties, on 13th October 2010 at Nusrat junction in the Kanifing Municipality, a charge Pa Jallow  has denied.

Dampha told the court that the accused, Pa Jallow, actually raised his hand with the intention of beating the complainant, but he the (witness) intervened.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel Badou SM Conteh, the witness told the court that the accused never touched the complainant, and never insulted her.

The police prosecutor, Cadet Inspector Kanteh told the court that the prosecution had closed its case.

The case was at that juncture adjourned till 6th December 2010 for the defence to open their case.
