The
criminal appeal case involving the United Democratic Party (UDP) senior
officials and the state could not proceed yesterday before The Gambia Court of
Appeal in Banjul.
It
would be recalled that the appellants, Ousainou Darboe, presently the Minister
of Foreign Affairs, and several others were jailed for three years last year
July by the High Court for unlawful assembly, holding a procession without a
permit, conspiracy to commit a felony, and riot among others.
During
yesterday’s sitting, the court observed that the appellants were not present in
court when the matter was called.
The
appellants counsel, senior counsel Amie Bensouda and Combeh Gaye, informed the
court that the appellants were unaware that the matter was slated for
yesterday.
The
matter was subsequently adjourned until 28 March 2017 for mention.
