The Judiciary, in collaboration with the UNDP on Monday 1st December 2009 commenced a two-week training on Information, Communications and Technology, ICT for Magistrates in The Gambia, at the Management Development Institute (MDI).
Specking at the opening ceremony, the Deputy Director General and Head of Computer Department of MDI, Mr. Alieu K. Jarju told the participants that in the rapidly changing world, fostered largely by globalisation and increased applications of technology and enhance socio-political processes, it is imperative for all countries to develop adequate and efficient human resource capacity. This, he added, is not only meant to deliver services for their citizens, but to compete as league of nation.
"In our context, we must understand that poverty and underdevelopment are structural rather than natural conditions that can be reversed through the development of a strong human resource capacity base, now called human capital development. Such human capital development processes would be facilitated by government policies and shouldered by a well-disciplined and technically prepared legion of public servants," said Mr. Jarju.
Jarju stressed that many factors have contributed to the poor state and economic performance in the West African sub-region.
Mr. Alieu Jarju told the participants that it is an indisputable fact that the human resources of a nation constitute the most precious assets of the nation.
