Two in court for alleged mobile theft

Ebrima Kanteh and Alhagie Njie were recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Fatoummatta Drammeh, charged with stealing.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, the duo on 30th January 2010, at Kanifing Estate, jointly stole two mobile phones, mark Siemens valued at D1, 200 and Nokia phone, valued at D850, being the properties of Binta Bojang and Sheriff Njie.

The 2nd accused, Alhagie Njie was further charged for escaping from lawful custody at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.

The facts of the case as narrated by the prosecutor, 1st Class 2118 Gomez, stated that on 30th January 2010, at the Kanifing Estate, the duo went to the complainant, Binta Bojang's compound to beg for drinking water.

According to him, they were given the water by the complainant who left them in the compound and went into a shop, while her mobile phones were being charged.

He further explained that, the complainant returned back only to realise that the accused persons went away with the mobile phones. He narrated that the complainant then went out of the gate of the compound and saw the accused persons running when he shouted for help.

Subsequently, he said the accused persons were apprehended and taken to Kanifing Police Station.

The 2nd accused pleaded guilty to both counts.
