Following the presidential directive on the stipulated price of meat during the just ended Holy month of Ramadan, the courts for the past couple of weeks have spared no mercy on the butchers who failed to adhere to the price regulation of a kilo of meat.

On 14th October 2008, the Kanifing Magistrates' Court presided over by Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay convicted and sentenced two Gambians Fatou Jeng and Essa Ngum to a fine of D1500, in default to serve one month imprisonment.

According to the facts of the case, the convicts were on 10th October 2008 at Tipper Garage found of over pricing by selling the meat at D100 per kilo instead of the stipulated price of D80 and D60 respectively.
