Trial of multiple criminal offences continues

The trial involving eight accused persons continued recently at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Edward Singhateh.

The accused persons, Modou Sanyang, Alhagie Sanyang, Wuyeh Sanyang, Dembo Badjie, Bakary Badjie, Malang B. Jatta, Malang Badjie and Jerreh Badjie, were charged with conspiracy, assault causing actual bodily harm, threatening violence and grievous bodily harm.

Testifying, the prosecution fourth witness, Solo Saidy, told the court that on 24 May 2009, the Jammeh Kunda family went to divide their land that was situated at Madina Salam.

He said he was in the bush when he heard a noise and when he came to find out he saw the accused persons surrounding the Jammeh Kunda family in the said land.

He added that some were holding cutlasses and others sticks, adding that he saw one of the accused persons, Wuyeh Sanyang, slapping Buba Jammeh.

Still testifying, he told the court that the accused persons then told the Jammeh Kunda family to leave the land and stop measuring it, if not they would kill them because the land was given to them by Sankung Badjie, the then commissioner.

He said he told the Jammeh Kunda family to report the matter at the Gunjur Police Station, adding that while they were going the accused persons insulted them and they further said whenever they see Foday Jammeh on that land they would kill him.

He added that while they were going, he realised that Amadou Jatta was being assaulted by one of the accused persons.

Saidy said the matter was later reported to the Gunjur Police Station where he gave his statement.
