Trial of Dutch national resumes

The criminal trial involving Andrew Van Roy, a Dutch national, resumed yesterday at the high court in Banjul before the vacation judge, Justice Emmanuel Nkea.

Testifying as the ninth prosecution witness, Pateh Baldeh told the court that he is the liaison officer at the Scanaid Upper Basic School in Brufut village.

He added once he was searching for the victims in their school, but was not able to trace them, until he was told by some of the pupils who share the same class with the victims, who later directed him to the house of the accused person.

Baldeh further adduced that he was told by those pupils that there was a white man who used to come, and picked the victims and take them to his house. The white man he said was later known to be the accused.

PW9 added that upon arriving at the house of the accused, the accused opened the door and invited him (the witness) into the house, where he found the victim sitting in a manner that he was not comfortable with.

“I took the photos of the accused person and submitted them to the authorities,” PW9 told the court.

The case continues today.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, in 2008 at Tintinto village in the West Coast Region, the accused had canal knowledge of an under-age girl.

Count two stated that, between 2010 and 2011, at Tintinto Village, in the West Coast Region, the accused had canal Knowledge of an under aged girl.

Count three revealed that between 2008 and 2011, at Tintinto Village, in the West Coast Region, the accused caused the seduction of a fifteen-year-old girl.

The charge sheet on count four stated that, the accused, Andre Van Roy, between 2010 and 2011, at Tintinto Village, in the West Coast Region, caused the seduction of a fifteen-year-old girl.

The particulars of offence on count five stated that, between 2009 and 2011, at Tintinto Village, in the West Coast Region, the accused exposed his genital organ to an under-aged girl.

And count six revealed that, between 2010 and 2011, at Tintinto Village, in the West Coast Region, the accused exposed his genital organ to an under aged girl.
