Tivaouane mawlud celebrated

Mawlud is an annual celebration of Prophet Muhammed's (saws) birthday. It is celebrated throughout the world, on the third month of the Muslim calendar, RABI AL AWAL on 12th day of the birth of the Prophet Muhammed (saws).

According to authoritative sources, this is the 108th year since Alhagie Malick Sy Mawdo started celebrating the event, characterised with the recitation of the Holy Qur'an by Alhagi Malick Sy and Alhagi Rawhah Ngum of Paal, both of whom recites half of the Holy Quran, and then pray to Allah.

This has always been the tradition until recently when the whole family and their Talibees started to join in the celebration.

Seydi Alhagi Malick Sy wrote a book on the life of the Prophet, called "MIMYA," among other books about the Prophet.

On the first day of Rabi Owal, the Bourda By Muhammed Bousri who is known as Muhammed Ben said Ben Hamid, Ben Abdallah was born in the Hyra 1608-1696, corresponding to 1212-1296. He was born in the town of Bousri, named after him and died in Alexandria Egypt.

This year the Mawlud was named after Serigne Habib Sy, the last son of Alhagi Malick Sy. His life history was the topic of the conference. He was born in 1906-1992, and was of an exemplary character.

The Khalifa-General of Tyan Serigne Mansour Sy was the head and leader of the Mawlud.

His brothers succeeded him, namely Serigne Cheikh Tyan Sy Maktum Serigne Abdul AZIZ AL-ZMIN, Serigne Mbaye Sy Mansour Serigne Mawdu Abdul AZIZ Dabaah, Mam Ousman Sy Serign Abib and many others. President Wade and his Cabinet led the Senegalese government to the occasion. The opposition parties were also in attendance.

The Khalifa advised them to unite and bring peace to Senegal and know that the country belongs to all Senegalese.

The Khalifa-General used the occasion to congratulate President Yahya Jammeh on the occasion of the Mawlud and wished him long life and peace in The Gambia. He prayed for unity in both countries, The Gambia and Senegal.
