Thief gets mandatory jail term

Senoir Magistrate Abdoulie Mbacke of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Musa Nyang to a mandatory jail term of four months for theft.

Magistrate Mbacke also ordered the stolen bag of rice to be returned to its rightful owner, Kanilai Group International.

According to the facts as narrated by Inspector Touray, it happened on 1st March 2010 between the hour of 1pm to 2pm, when the accused went to Kanilai Group International (KGI) warehouse and took one bag of 30kg of rice form the store, valued at D300.

He narrated that the accused person was confronted by the storekeeper, Ebrima Colley as to whether he had a receipt for that bag of rice, but he replied in the negative.

Subsequently, he said the accused was arrested and taken to Kanifing Estate Police Station where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
