Taxi driver testifies in theft case

One Babucarr Joof, a taxi driver, yesterday testified in the trial involving one Ansumana Jarju, accused of stealing from a motor vehicle, before Magistrate Gomez of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

In his testimony, Joof told the court that he recognized the accused and could recall what happened on 27 April 2015.

He said on the aforementioned date in the morning, he came to his vehicle, which was at Bakoteh, and observed that the window was opened and his two flash drives were taken, and the engine cover was also opened.

Joof said he reported the matter to the Bakoteh Police Station, adding that he later met a friend who told him that the accused was apprehended by one Lamin Sanyang, and was detained at the station.

According to him, he asked Sanyang what was found in the possession of the accused, and he said they were two flash drives.

He further told the court that each of the flash drives cost D150, and his vehicle registration number is BJL 4060 K.

His statement was obtained at the station, he said.
