Giving his evidence, at the Banjul magistrates’ court before magistrate Muhammed Krubally, the prosecution witness recalled that on 3 December 2013 he was at the President’s farm in Batokunku.
He was called by the Alkalo’s son, one Lamin Bojang, who asked whether he was aware of the publication that ‘19 Green Youths of Tanji crossed carpet from APRC to UDP, in The Voice newspaper.
Jassey said he told Bojang that the news sounded strange as he had gone around the town looking for the remaining Green Youths, as they were only eight at the Batokunku farm to render assistance at the President’s farm.
He added that he was also informed by the secretary general, one Manlafi Bojang, that the remaining 50 Green Youths were in Brikama, Kanilai and Kanifing respectively.
“I told him that the youths were fewer in Tanji, since we were only eight present at the President’s farm at Batokunku,” he further stated.
Under cross-examination by defence counsel LS. Camara, the witness said it was correct that he did not actually know about the presence of other members of the Green Youths in Tanji, because he was told by Manlafi Bojang that they were elsewhere.
Jassey also agreed that he did not know about what was allegedly written in the newspaper, before Lamin Bojang told him, and that he went around the town looking for the Green Youths at the President’s farm in Batokunku.
He told the court that he drove around the town to look for the Green Youths, but could not see them.
Jassey also stated that apart from what he was told, he did not know anything else about the case.
