Supposed marabout, devil in court for D283,000 alleged fraud

Mutary Kolley and Jarra Kolley, alleged marabout and devil, were yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Abeke of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, charged with conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.

The particulars of offence in count one stated that the accused persons Mutary Kolley, Alagie Leigh (at large) and Jarra Kolley between the year 2013 and 21 October 2014, precisely at Brikama and diverse places jointly conspired and obtained D283,000 from Hali Jobe with intent to commit a felony, and thereby committed an offence.

Count two stated that Mutary Kolley and Alagie Leigh at the same place, time and date portrayed themselves as marabouts whilst Jarra Kolley portrayed herself as a devil to Hali Jobe, and obtained D283,000 from the said Hali Jobe.

They denied the charges and were granted bail of D500,000 with Gambian sureties for each of them.

Each surety shall depose to an affidavit of means and should be residing within the jurisdiction of the court. The sureties should also deposit their national ID cards with the court.

The case continues on 2 March 2015, for hearing.
