Zuwa FC of Bakau is determined to recover from their slow start to this year’s Bakau Naweetan as they look set to entertain Mighty Vidar in a crucial first-round match on Sunday, Pointsport can reveal.
The Bakau New Town-based team got off to an unconvincing start in the 24 team league campaign with a deadly goalless draw with the rejuvenated side, Farokono, a result that left many fanatic followers of the youthful Zuwa FC side disappointed.
However, the side is determined to overcome a poor start to the competition, as they have set their sights on winning the double.
They made their fans excited with a super cup success over much-fancied Ron Mango team a week ago, but fell short in their attempt to replicate the same success in their opener.
The super cup champions face a daunting task of beating Vidar, who also need to pick up maximum points, following their pulsating goalless draw against Bremen Border in the second day of the championship at the Real de Banjul football grounds.
Other games to be played this weekend include: 5 Junction versus Linguere, whose poor performance in the Bakau Naweetan in recent years continues to be the topic of discussion in certain quarters, and it looks like they will be the casualty in yet another bad season, following an opening game defeat to rivals Julangel, last weekend.
Seaview FC will rub shoulders with Late F. Drammeh, former called Vietnam Border, whose encounter with neighbours Ron Mango ended in violence, that halted the remaining period of a controversial match. The committee is yet to decide on the matter.
Zebra who got off to a perfect start to the season, after beating Tos Actief 4-nil in the opening game of the campaign, will resume their guest for silverware with a tough encounter with Ron Mango, who are hoping to retain their double, while Junior Arms meet Mamakono.
Julangel meet Bantankoto in the early kick off on Sunday at 9:30 am.
