The Advance Nursery and Lower Basic School in Serekunda held a ceremony last weekend to celebrate the graduation of its Nursery Three and Grade Six students who will now advance to Grade One and Grade Seven respectively.

The school’s headmistress, Mbanyang Jobe gave a speech at the ceremony in which she summarised the school’s achievements for the 2011/2012 academic year.

She explained how the school has been fully certified to continue operations by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) following an assessment.

Mrs Jobe also said that her students did well in the examinations and that there are plans to open an Upper Basic school.

Mrs Jobe urged parents to take an active role in their children’s education, saying: “I am challenging parents to always assist their daughters and sons in doing their homework.”

She advised students to make the best use of their books over the summer holidays to improve their academic performance in the coming year.
