Steve Biko’s hope of retaining their 2012-2013 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) division one league crown has suffered another upset following their 2-0 defeat to Bakau United in the all-Bakau derby fixtures played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on Tuesday.
Steve Biko, who won the country’s top flight title last season, are currently languishing at the bottom on the league and came into the game with the objective of bagging the maximum points to keep their dreams of staying in the league as well as keep their hopes of retaining their league crown but were reluctant to snatch the vital three points and surrendered the maximum points to their Bakau counterparts.
Bakau United opened the tally through striker Omar Ndong in the 12th minute of the game to give his side the lead.
Substitute Lamin Dibba sealed the victory for Bakau United in the 71st minute of the game to earn his side the vital three points.
The victory has earned Bakau United mid-table with 22 points in sixteen outings. They will therefore be fighting tooth and nail in their remaining fixtures to secure good position on the league table.
Steve Biko are currently struggling at the bottom with only 14 points in sixteen games and need to win their remaining fixtures to keep their chances of staying in the top flight next season as well as keep their hopes of retaining their 2012-2013 league crown.
