St Peters, St August win basketball final

The Inter-Secondary School Basketball Championship finals were won by St Peters Senior School female side and St Augustine’s male side on Saturday at the Serrekunda Mini Stadium.

St Peters female side defeated Methodists by 10 points to 6, while St Augustine male side defeated Gambia Senior Secondary School by 29 to 21 points.

The points scoring on the female side were opened by Mariatou Bojang of Methodists with 4 points, who began by forcing the opponents to challenge them; followed by Ejatou Barry with the other two points, thereby dominating the first session of the game.

However, Kaddijatou Kuyateh of St Peters in the second session scored the 6 points thereby taking over the game, and later Aminata Sanyang added the 4 points to defeat Methodists by 10 points to 6.

Speaking to St Peters’ Coach Salieu Jeng, who said he was satisfied with the performance with his girls, reiterated that he has the best team that played up to expectations.

Coach Jange revealed that his girls were trailed so heavily in the first session, but was able to put them through during half time, which helped them to change tactics in the second half and defeated their opponents.

While thanking them for their splendid performance, he also advised them to take their education seriously in order to score good grades in their exams.

Team captain Kadijatou Kuyateh, who was the leading scorer, thanked her colleagues for their hard work on the pitch but also urged them to work harder on accomplishing their education.
