The Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia are the Bronze medallists of the Nigeria High Commissioner six-team Golden Tournament which ended yesterday.
The Sportswriters team awarded the 'Most Discipline Team' trophy, received a cash prize of D2, 000, and a certificate of appreciation.
The golden tournament was won by the Sierra Leonean community football team in The Gambia following their 4-2 victory over their Nigerian counterparts on penalty shootout yesterday at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda after a 0-0 90th minute show.
The tournament was organised by the Nigerian High Commissioner to The Gambia, Her Excellency, Hon. (Mrs) Esther John Audu, to mark the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which falls on 1 October.
The winners, the Sierra Leoneans went, home with a giant golden trophy, a cash prize of D5,000 and a certificate of appreciation for taking part in the tournament.
Nigeria, the runners up, received a trophy, a consolation prize of D3, 000 and also a certificate of appreciation.
Mauritania, Libya and Senegal all received consolation prizes of D1, 500 each and a certificate of appreciation.
The best player of the tournament went to Sierra Leone's goalkeeper Emmanuel Sanko while Chidi Nwani of Nigeria was named the leading goal scorer of the tournament and both were awarded with trophies.
