Salifu K. Jaiteh and Sons Enterprise on Friday donated 100 bales of second-hand clothes to the Municipal Disaster Committee through the Kanifing Municipal Council for onward distribution to victims of natural disasters living within the municipality.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the KMC grounds, Seedy Jaiteh, son of Salifu K. Jaiteh, who presented the items to the council, said the donation was part of their coroporate social responsibility, noting that SK Jaiteh and Sons wants to contribute its quota towards national development.
According to him, SK Jaiteh and Sons Enterprise is aware that the private sector have a role to play in complementing the government’s efforts, and that as residents of the Kanifing Municipality, they understand that the KMC registers a high number of disaster cases.
He underscored SK Jaiteh and Sons’ resolve to partner with the KMC to help the poorest sections of the urban communities.
In receiving the donated items, the Lord Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Yankuba Colley, said SK Jaiteh and Sons have developed a reputation for supporting and contributing to national development efforts.
He said SK Jaiteh and Sons could have just concentrated on increasing its profits as businesspeople, but instead they have also been providing assistance to the poor people in the communities.
Mayor Colley urged other private sector operators to emulate SK Jaiteh and Sons.
On behalf of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Mayor Colley presented the items to the chairperson of the KMC Disaster Management Committee, and advised them to ensure that the donated items reach the intended beneficiaries.
The chairperson of the committee, Musa Mendy, delivered the vote of thanks.
The presentation was witnessed by senior officials of the KMC and the disaster management team.
