Six people were last Saturday arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court charged with four counts of drugs-related offences.
The six accused persons are Karim Njie, Ousman Jarju, Muhammed Jatta alias “Boy Boy”, Adama Kasseh, Alieu Jammeh and Kebba Bojang alias “Dibba”.
They were charged with conspiracy to deal in prohibited drugs, dealing in prohibited drugs and being in possession of prohibited drugs for the purpose of drug trafficking.
According to the particulars of offence on count one, Karim Njie and the five other accused persons, as well as others now at large, on 18 November 2011 at diverse places in The Gambia within the jurisdiction of the court, conspired to deal in cannabis sativa, a prohibited drug, and thereby committed an offence.
Count two stated that Karim Njie and five others, and others now at large, on 18th November 2011 between Jalokoto and Somita in the West Coast Region and diverse places in The Gambia within the jurisdiction of the court, acquired 59 Kg of cannabis sativa.
The charge sheet further stated on count three that Ousman Jarju, Muhammed Jatta, Adama Kasseh, Alieu Jammeh and Kebba Bojang, as well as others now at large, on 18 November 2011 in diverse places in The Gambia, contracted the services of Karim Njie, in supplying and or transporting 66 bundles of cannabis sativa weighing 59 kg.
Count four also stated that the six accused persons on 18 November 2011 had in their possession the said cannabis sativa.
The case was then adjourned till 17 December 2011, for mention and plea taking.
