Ward Renamed After Banjul Pharmacy

Following the handsome donation made by Banjul Pharmacy to Essau Health Centre, the management of Essau Health Centre has decided to rename Essau Children's Ward Banjul Pharmacy Ward. The move is said to be a show of their appreciation for the donation. The donation was first of its kind Banjul Pharmacy rendered to Essau Health Centre in the history of the health centre. The handing over ceremony was held at the Essau Health Centre in the North Bank Division recently.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony Mr. Jimmy Olu Coker, pharmacist at Banjul Pharmacy, said that the gesture was part of his institution's contribution to The Gambia's health sector. He said this is the first time his institution has rendered such help to Essau Health Centre, 'But Banjul Pharmacy has been assisting health sectors in the Country through MFH Group for over the years".

He pointed out that that his institution feels that Essau Health Centre is the major health centre in the North Bank Region and there is need for them to be assisted with materials because curtains and mattresses have been spoiled through overuse.

He promised that the first baby of the year 2009 with be supported by his institution would support him in terms of health. "I really appreciate that my institution has a ward named after it and we will renovate the ward and even repaint it," he said.          

Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Sulayman S. F. Jammeh, officer in-charge of the facility, asserted his delight with Banjul Pharmacy for their handsome donation to the children's ward. He added the Esau Health Centre is one of the major health centres in the North Bank Region. He said it frequently receives referrals and admits patients from other health posts in the North Bank. He pointed out that Essau Health Centre is the 6th biggest health centre in The Gambia and that he has worked at four out of the six.

Mr. Jammeh added that Essau Health Centre attends to all types of patients either for operations or common diseases.  He said that Essau Health Centre is the only Health Centre which is not fenced and this makes it even harder to make the health centre clean.
