The
Sheikh Alhaji Bubacarr Jallow Islamic Development Foundation in Bansang,
Central River Region will be launched this Saturday at Paradise Suites Hotel in
Kololi.
The
foundation is an Islamic charitable non-profit making legal association
established in honour of its patron, Sheikh Alhaji Bubacarr Zaidi Jallow (RA),
late Imam of Bansang.
Members
say Sheikh Alhaji Bubacarr Zaidi Jallow (RA) was born in the first decade of
the 20th century in the village of Ndireh Sebori, Lelumaa in the Republic of
Guinea. He lost his father Ousman Taano Jallow at a tender age and spent his
early years with his mother Cherno Mariama Jallow (RA), a pious lady from the
neighboring village of Towndeh.
Under
the care of his maternal uncle Cherno Ebrima Jallow (RA), the Sheikh learnt the
Holy Quran and other aspects of Islamic studies at the village of Towndeh.
Eventually, with the consent of his uncle and teacher, Alhaji Jallow travelled
through the sub region spending some time visiting various Islamic centers in
Guinea Bissau and Senegal.
The
foundation is seek to promote adherence to Islam and Islamic values and the
Tarriqa Tidjanniya, to establish, maintain and support Mosques, Islamic
education and other related institutions. It also targets to promote community
development initiatives in general and to undertake programmes to enhance the
status of women and youth in particular, amongst others.
