The Brikama Magistrates' Court yesterday granted bail to the seven youths that are on trial for allegedly conspiring to defraud and obstruct a police officer while in due execution of his duties.
Ansumana Fatty, Tijan Ndure, Lamin Kabou, Vernando Co and Karamo Drammeh were granted bail by Magistrate Fred Foster in the sum of D25, 000, while Lamin Sima and Baboucarr Cham were granted bail in the sum of D40, 000.
The accused persons were held on custodial remand at Mile 2 Central Prisons since 31st May 2009.
The state counsel, Barkun, who opposed granting bail to Tijan Ndure, Ansumana Fatty and Karamo Drammeh, adduced that they have a pending case at the High Court, in which they are not granted bail. He posited that granting them bail will have no effect. He informed the court of his intention to amend the charges and join them with the High Court matter.
Defence counsel Kebba Sanyang and Buba Jawo adduced that the offences with which the accused persons are charged are bailable and have nothing to do with the charges at the High Court.
The hearing continues.
