A Senegambia Hotel employee, Joseph Jarju, was yesterday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D2,000 in default to serve four months in prison.
Joseph was arraigned before Magistrate Fatou Darboe of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court, charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and stealing by clerk or servant.He was also ordered to pay a compensation of D119,000 in default to serve one year nine months in prison.
The charge sheet read that on 9 April 2014, at Senegambia Beach Hotel in the Kanifing Municipality, he conspired with others to commit a felony, that is, stealing.
Count
two stated that being an employee of Senegambia Beach Hotel and by virtue of
that employment, jointly stole 5000 bottles of bear valued at D119,000,
belonging to Senegambia Beach Hotel.
