Woman fined D10,000 for contempt of court

Magistrate Bojang of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday convicted and sentenced one Amie Sillah to a fine of D10,000 in default to serve six months in prison.

This was after she admitted to a charge of contempt of court.

The charge sheet stated that on 16 October 2014, at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court in the Kanifing Municipality, while under judicial proceedings in the said court, conducted herself in a manner that showed total disregard or disrespect in the face of the court, and thereby committed an offence.

In another development, one Muhammed Konjera was also convicted and sentenced by the same court to a fine of D2,000, in default to serve three months in prison.

Muhammed Konjera, who was found liable for assault causing actual bodily harm, was also ordered to pay a compensation of D1,500.

The particulars of offence stated that on 16 June 2014, at Old Jeshwang in the Kanifing Municipality, he unlawfully assaulted one Abdoulie Jallow, a shopkeeper, with a broken bottle on his neck and chest, causing him actual bodily harm.
