Diouf said selling players to Scandinavian clubs would not help Gambia football in anyway.
Diouf, who made these remarks during the 7th National Sports Award and Gala of the Sports Journalist Association of the Gambia, added: “If The Gambia want its football to develop and the careers of its players to last long, they have to sell their players to clubs in the English Premier League, Spanish League and other top leagues in the world.
The former Liverpool star pointed out that The Gambia has always done well in youth competitions but the moment the country’s players graduate from that level their “careers are at danger” as they are sold to less competitive league clubs, “which is not helping Gambian football”.
The former African Footballer of the year noted that The Gambia is blessed with talents and as such GFF should not allow greedy agents to do whatever they wish.
As a footballer one should be ambitious, hardworking and determined, he gives a word of advice to Gambian players, adding that young Gambian players that are well nurtured and protected can bring the country glory.
