The Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA) last Saturday held their Annual General Meeting (AGM), at Latrikunda Upper Basic School.
Speaking at the AGM, the Chairman of GSSSA Martin Gomez thanked the delegates for their massive turn out. He also thanked them for the successful conduct of sporting activities during the past two years.
According to Mr. Gomez, it is not easy to organise sports at both school and national levels, adding that his organisation is the only sporting organisation in the country which organises sports competitions across.
"The purpose of the AGM was to update members on the activities of the association and other pertinent issues," he told delegates.
Chairman Gomez expressed dismay that some head teachers have no concern for sports. He promised sports teachers that his association will continue to dialogue with school head teachers on the matter. He asserted that at his school sport is number one in his school year activities.
Alhagie S. Darboe, the Secretary-General of the GSSSA dilated on the activities carried out by his association from 2007-2009.
Mr. Darboe also talked about some constraints faced by his association for the past two years, such as sponsorship, the lack of basic knowledge and skills by P/E teachers, among others.
School head teachers were also asked to pay an annual contribution of D1000.00 in every November, adding that any school, which fails to pay their contribution beyond November, will pay an extra amount of D200.00.
