The president of Toroba Farmers Association in Lower Badibou district in the North Bank Region has applauded the Social Development Fund, SDF, for supporting farmers to have access to microfinance to increase food production and productivity.
Bagal Bah was speaking in Toroba village recently regarding the impact of the SDF intervention on the farmers association, following SDF’s 2013 loan of D300,000 to the association.
He said the support has empowered farmers in the buying of coos, and to venture into other income-generation economic activities, while underscoring of their commitment to become a hub for the private sector in supplying farm produce to meet market demand.
He said the SDF intervention in 2013 had enabled the association to provide fertilizer to farmers at a reasonable price, and to enhance food production and sustainable livelihood.
Bah called on the SDF to stand by the association in accessing soft loans to increase members’ participation in small and medium enterprise development, and in this way contribute to poverty reduction.
He said the association was fully committed to timely loan payment, and called on other microfinance institutions to emulate the SDF.
