The
community of Salikenni in the North Bank Region will hold its annual Islamic
conference (Gamo) on Saturday 7 March 2020.
The
annual event brings together people from all walks of life for religious
discourse and prayers.
Sheikh
Alhaji Omar Ceesay, a renowned Gambian scholar
and resident of Salikenni, said recitation of the Holy Quran and
discussion on the life and times of Prophet Muhammed would form the highlights
of the Gamo.
“Previous
years, we discussed farming and health from an Islamic point of view, as well
as the importance of respecting and working for one’s parents,” he said.
He
added: “I wish to extend special invitation to the President Adama Barrow, his
government and entire Muslim Ummah.”
Sheikh
Omar Ceesay studied in Mauritania, before winning a scholarship to further his
university education in Riyad, Saudi Arabia. He returned in 1978, and has
taught as a Quranic teacher in secondary and primary schools for 35 years.
