The GFA second division league football game between Sait Matty and Interior was on Wednesday called off at the Father Gough Sport Complex in Manjai.
Both opponents, who went into the pitch to play after big preparations for the game, came to realize that it was postponed upon arrival.
Speaking to the head coach of Interior, Ebrima Manneh, he said both teams were present and when they went into the field to check it, they found out the field was not marked, which made it difficult for the game to be held.
The match commissioner said the pitch was no ruled out, he said, adding that the other reason was the unavailability of the security.
The chairman of the referee’s committee then called the referees to talk to the heads of the two teams that the game cannot be held.
He said it was expected to be a tight one and it would not be advisable for the game to be held in the absence of security.
He said that almost three of their second division league games had been postponed, which he said was not good for them.
With the financial constraints, postponing of games is not good for teams.
“I think there is total disappointment; I think there is need for a football calendar which we still contemplate which we have not had,” Manneh said, adding that the league is far away from getting better.
Interior will however take on Lamin United on Saturday.
Assistant head coach of Sait Matty FC, Ansumana Jallow, expressed similar sentiment as regards the unavailability of security and the unmarking in the field.
He also expressed his disappointment at the postponement of the game.
