As schools warm up for the annual Inter-Schools Athletics Championship Final, the event is slated for today Friday 12th and tomorrow Saturday 13th March 2010, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The final is expected to be competed for by Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools across the country in various events such as relay 100 metres, 200 metres 1,500 metres, among other events.

Modou Njie, the Physical Education Teacher for Saint Augustine's Senior Secondary School, is  optimistic that his school will lift the 2010 Trust Bank Limited sponsored national inter-schools finals at the end of the events.

He pointed out that he will not underrate any school in the championship, but added that winning will have to be achieved through determination, hard work and commitment.

He further pointed out that female athletes perform more than the male athletes during the heats championship last weekend.

Gambia Senior Secondary School was crowned champions of the senior secondary schools category last year, while Saint Augustine’s Senior Secondary School finished in 2nd position.

In the Upper Basic Schools category, Sukuta Upper Basic School emerged champions, whilst Gunjur Upper Basic School finished runners-up.
