Striker Saikouba Ceesay’s doubled has inspired Brikama United to the second spot in the 2015-2016 Gambia Football Federation domestic division one league.
The Sateyba boys beat the newly-crowned league champions Gambia Ports Authority 2-1 in the week twenty-two fixtures played at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium on Sunday.
The ferry boys were crowned league champions prior to their final league fixtures with Brikama United following their 2-2 draw with Serrekunda United in their previous outing.
Brikama United are third after Real De Banjul beat Banjul United 1-0 on Saturday.
Brikama United opened the scores through striker Saikouba Ceesay in the 27th minute of the game from the penalty spot after Gambia Ports Authority defender handled the ball inside the area to give the Sateyba boys the lead.
Gambia Ports Authority reacted for an equalizer and could have levelled the scores through Abdou Njie in the 30th minute of the penalty spot, but his penalty hit the woodwork thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Brikama United.
Upon resumption of the game, Gambia Ports Authority gaffer Alagie Sarr injected in several fresh legs in his attacking force and mounted pressure on Brikama United to level the scores through midfielder Muhammed Kabba in the 80th minute of the game.
Striker Saikouba Ceesay grabbed the winner for Brikama United in the 91st minute of the game to earn Brikama United’s second spot in the top flight.
Brikama United finished the game with ten men after Yaya Iman was sent off midway into the second half.
Gamtel thumped Gambia Armed Forces 2-0 at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium, while Samger drew goalless with Steve Biko at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day.
