Road accidents

Jul 5, 2011, 2:41 PM

The issue of fatal road accidents in the country is now becoming a cause for  concern.

We are seriously concerned about the loss of lives of innocent people.

It is, therefore, high time that the authorities put in place all the necessary measures to avert the accidents taking place.

It is incumbent upon all drivers to respect the traffic rules.

This is the only way we can reduce the avoidable unnecessary accidents.

We strongly believe that some of the accidents are due to reckless driving, which when precautions are taken can be averted.

It is a fact that a good number of our drivers do not really observe traffic regulations.

We, therefore, urge the police to be very vigilant, and to get rid of any vehicle that is not safe to ply our roads.

Drivers of all categories should be well trained before driving on our roads.

Qualified drivers should also desist from giving their vehicles to their fellow drivers, who are neither qualified nor employed to drive the particular taxi.

Life is very precious!

Most of the time, some of the people these drivers hand over their vehicles to do not care about the traffic rules, and the passengers.

All what they are after is how to make money for themselves, at the expense of the life of the ordinary passengers.

Now it is high time that traffic police properly observed the vehicles at the various checkpoints across the country, to see whether drivers are strictly observing the traffic rules.

It is disheartening sometimes to see trucks fully loaded beyond their normal capacity, and on top of that you see people sitting in such vehicles.

This is risky, and people should be careful of such behaviors.

The recent accidents said to have occurred in the West Coast Region and the one that happened in North bank Region are sad to recall.
