Retired police officer testifies in court

Edrisa Sambou, a retired police officer recently testified in the trial of one Abdoulie Colley, who is charged with abuse of office before the Brikama Magistrates' Court.

Testifying before Magistrate Secka, the prosecution witness, Edrisa Sambou told the court that he is a retired police officer, and that he recognised the accused, Abdoulie Colley.

According to him, on 18th September 2002, he was on duty at the Tujereng Police Station when the accused who was the then station officer instructed him to go to Banyaka Village to arrest suspects, who allegedly beat a thief to dead, and to bring the corpse.

He adduced that upon arresting the suspects, he brought them along with the deceased to the Tujereng Police Station.

Mr. Sambou further added that he was later assigned to escort the corpse to the RVTH for posmortum. He added that a few months later, he was invited to the Brikama Police Station CID unit, where he made a statement.

The case was adjourned to 21st April 2010.
