Real vice-captain completes Ajax trial

Real De Banjul Vice-Captain Saikou Jawara last week returned to Banjul after undergoing a two-week trial with the South African Premier League soccer side, Ajax Cape Town.

The former Linguere FC midfielder who moved to the Banjul club in 2006 traveled to South African, a fortnight ago to undergo a two-week trial, but he is back in Banjul to wait for the confirmation of the outcome of the trial.

"I was in Ajax for a trial which was facilitated by my club under the leadership of the club President, Willy Ibrahim and I am waiting for the confirmation of the outcome of the trial former U-20 left back," he told this reporter in an interview yesterday.

"As I am speaking with you, I cannot confirm to you whether the trial is successful or not, unless I receive the confirmation from the South African side," he added.

He thanked the entire management of Real De Banjul Football Club for their continuous support to him since he joined the club in 2006.  He is hopeful of a positive confirmation from Ajax Cape Town, which is one of the formidable teams in the South African Premier League Soccer.

The versatile youngster made his first debut for The Gambia U-20 team in an impressive 4-one win over Senegal in an international friendly game, played in Banjul in 2008.

He has since managed to establish himself as one of the best left backs in Gambian football, which earned him a move to the senior national team last year.
