City boys Real De Banjul have registered their first win in the 2011-2012 Gambia Football Association division one league after thrashing Hawks 2-0 in the all-Banjul derby in the Week 6 fixtures played at the Banjul KG5 Mini-stadium on Tuesday.
Both sides are currently strugglers in the league with three points in their previous five outings.
Striker Modou Njie-Sarr opened the score for Real De Banjul in the 28th minute of the game from a superb header to give his side the lead before Musa Balla Sowe netted the second goal in the 53rd minute from a brilliant strike, which came from an Alagie Bah’s cross to double Real De Banjul’s lead.
Hawks fought back for an equaliser but could not break through Real De Banjul’s formidable defence line.
The game ended 2-0 in favour of Real De Banjul, earning them their first victory in the new season.
On the other front, reigning league champions Brikama United were held to a 1-1 draw by Bakau United at the Brikama Box Bar Mini-stadium on the same day.
Gamtel drew 0-0 with Samger in the other Week 6 fixtures played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda on the same day.
Real De Banjul are now on 6 points in six games, Hawks have collected 3 points in six outings, Brikama United have 7 points, Bakau United are on 9 points in five games, Gamtel have 10 points in five games, and Samger are standing on 9 points in six games.
