PW2 testifies in Ocean Bay Hotel GM case

eCorporal Lamin S. Joof, the second prosecution witness, on Wednesday testified in the trial of one Juergen Odenwald, general manager of Ocean Bay Hotel, at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before acting-Principal Magistrate Alagba.

In his testimony, Corporal Joof told the court he is an NDEA officer who was posted to Bundung, but now moved to Bakoteh Station.

H said that on 26 April 2011, he was on duty at the Bundung NDEA office when his officer-in-charge arrived with two parcels of suspected cannabis sativa.

PW2 further testified that he was at the station till evening when the deputy NDEA director arrived and asked him about the case.

 “I told him that I knew nothing about the case,” he added, stating that later the deputy director gave an order for the arrest of the accused.

He said the following morning he came to the office and was told to escort the accused to the police headquarters in Banjul, which he did.

“Upon arrival at the police headquarters, we were taken to the weighing room. Later a weighing certificate was issued and the suspect thumb-printed and I signed it,” Corporal Joof told the court.

 The weighing certificate was later tendered and admitted as exhibit at court.

Under cross-examination, PW2 said he was not part of the investigation team.

The case was at that juncture adjourned till 12 August 2011.
