Blessed with an amazing skill and pace, the Gambia Ports Authority's prolific forward Ankey Sonko has left and continued to leave a mark in his previous and current football clubs, notably the S.V Larr where he remains one of the finest strikers in recent times.
Sonko who started his playing career with a local side, called S/V Larr in the Serrekunda East Nawettan played a leading role as his valuable contribution has helped the team earned itself a place in the Nawettan proper when he was still going to school.
Like many of his colleagues and friends, Sonko began his playing career in the streets of Tallinding before graduating to become a better player, thus attracting interest of the Serrekunda East outfit.
He played an influential role during his time with Tallinding Lower Basic School, Abuko Upper and Saint Augustine Senior Secondary Schools, respectively. And in the process, he has earned the admiration of S.V Larr, who wasted no time to welcome his service.
He did not disappoint his admirers with some outstanding displays to help the team qualify to the Nawettan.
Shortly afterwards, the striker switched over to the current GFA Division One League Champions, the Gambia Ports Authority. But he has failed in his attempt to secure a regular first team place under the head coach Peter Bonu Johnson, whom he described as the one of the best coaches in the country.
Sonko who also extended thanks and appreciation to the entire management of the GPA and S.V. Larr for their continuous support promised to regain the form that saw the two clubs secured his service, as he prepares to shine in the upcoming season.
