A claim of over D4 million was brought against Pro-Pag Advocay Group at the Kanifing Industrial Tribunal by one Rohey Yatou Sey-Corr, former employee of the organisation.
The plaintiff Rohey Yatou claimed D4,125, 773.56 for unlawful termination, social security contributions, redundancy notice and allowance.
She also claimed for interest of 25 percent and costs.
She testified that on 16 January 2012, she received a letter of notification from the defendant to hand over all Pro-Pag materials.
She informed the tribunal that the said letter was dated 10 January 2012, and she received it on 16 January 2012.
According to her, from there, she consulted her representative and they had an appointment with the Labour Department.
‘’At the labour Department, we had a meeting with the Labour Commissioner and I served all the parties concerned with my request I made at the Labour,’’ she told the tribunal.
On 12 March 2012, a response was received from the organisation (Pro-pag), claiming that it was not professionally done, in which case she returned to the Labour Department, which then invited all parties to a meeting, she said.
‘’During the meeting, the orgainsation (Pro-pag) was advised that her termination was unlawful,’’ the plaintiff said, adding that she requested to give them chance and returned the next day.
On their return, the defendant still refused to accept fault and they were given another date to meet, adding that on that date, the defendant failed to turn up.
She revealed that prior to the meeting date, the defendant wrote her a termination letter and sent it to the Labour Department.
She claimed that her termination was unfair and unlawful.
The case was adjourned till 15 February 2012.
