President Yahya Jammeh has strongly condemned the “extraordinary brutality” being shown by the Israelis in Gaza, and pointed out that even though “nobody is condemning them, Allah would condemn them”.
Speaking on Monday, during the traditional meeting with Muslim elders after the Eid al Fitr prayer at State House in Banjul, the Gambian leader spoke of “the bad things they are doing in Palestine, in the last ten days of Ramadan”.
He also lamented the fact that “nobody is saying a word. The white people are engaged in hypocrisy; their media is putting out lies”.
“Israel what they are doing in Gaza is abominable; is unacceptable, and I even wonder how Hitler would see it; he would say, ‘oh, I think this people are worst than me’”, Jammeh told his audience.
Those listening to President Jammeh included members of the government, members of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, members of the Committee of Banjul Muslim Elders and the Imam Ratib of Banjul, as well as other imams and Muslim elders in the Greater Banjul area. The event was broadcast on national radio and television.
Citing the fact that the Israelis are even bombing hospitals, Jammeh further declared: “This is excessive brutality that we condemn in the strongest terms possible”.
He also called attention to “the satanic Western media”, which has been justifying Israel’s actions “because [they say] Hamas were firing rockets”.
President Jammeh went on to point out that the West are “blaming Putin (of Russia) for what is happening in Ukraine”.
“The missile that downed the Malaysian plane, they say, is a Russian-made missile. But the weapons that are used in the barbarism in the barbaric act against the Palestinians were made by the West, and nobody is blaming them. Nobody talks about it; not even the UN Security Council can pass a resolution against Israel!
“I’m not against the Jews; I am a Muslim. I will condemn the Jews the same way I will condemn Gambians, if they do such barbaric act. Especially in the last ten days of Ramadan.
“Nobody is talking about the fact that they have turned Gaza into a living hell for the Palestinians; nobody is talking about that. Israel has no right to put every Gazan or Palestinian in Gaza in prison”.
The Gambian leader continued: “Apartheid was in South Africa; now it has been transferred to Palestine. In those days of the worst period of apartheid, they had the Group Areas Act. The blacks were sent to the worst places in South Africa, despite they are the Africans. A white man can take your farm, if the land is good.
“Whereas in South Africa they had electric fences dividing blacks and whites, in Israel they have a concrete fence, going through Palestinian land.
“Every Westerner is jubilating that the Berlin Wall has fallen. Something worst than the Berlin Wall is in Palestine; and nobody is talking about it.
“They say those people fighting in the Arab Spring were fighting for democracy. They were fighting for “hell-ocracy” – because now they’ve got worse than what they had before – I’m not talking in terms of governance, but in terms of living in peace and security.
“Look at Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Palestine, Libya – all Muslims should understand to that the conditions for jihad do not exist in their countries today, except Palestine.
The more we kill each other, the more we strengthen the enemies of Islam, financially and spiritually…”, President Jammeh added.
