The Office of the President has warned against the escalation of murders of innocent citizens in the country, stressing that the move is unacceptable.
A statement issued by the Presidency called the attention of the general public, especially the council of elders, youths and women groups who appealed to the President for a moratorium on the execution of murder convicts, to the recent cases of murder in and around Serrekunda over the past weekend.
“Within just seventy-two hours, we saw the gruesome murders of three people and one infanticide contrary to the belief and agreement that a halt on the executions will influence a reduction in murder cases in the country,” the statement said.
“This sudden escalation of senseless murders of innocent citizens is unacceptable,” the statement added.
