The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has urged political parties in The Gambia to regularize their status, according to a press release signed by IEC Chairman Mustapha L. Carayol.
The release, sent yesterday to The Point, stated: “Sequel to the Elections (Amendment) Act, 2015 and the notice sent earlier to all political parties to comply with this Act, all political parties are hereby reminded to regularise their status by providing the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) with an updated list of their party executive members and the addresses of their parties’ secretariats in each administrative region by not later than 31st March 2016.”
It added: “Please be reminded also the requirements to be holding biennial congress and to submit a written undertaking to the IEC that your political party shall provide yearly audited accounts to the IEC.”
The release also stated that “any political party that fails to comply with this Act shall be de-registered after the mentioned deadline”.
